Universidade de Coimbra

About this Member

The University of Coimbra ("UC") is a public university, founded in 1290, based in Coimbra. The UC sees itself as a central partner of the business community, based on a relationship of knowledge and technology transfer through its technological platforms, the provision of specialised services and the implementation of joint projects with different business structures, within the framework of its multiple areas of knowledge. In the context of this Agenda, the UC's strategic research area dedicated to "Natural Resources, Agrifood and the Environment" stands out, as it aims to aggregate and maximise excellent research and offer innovative solutions to accelerate the transition to sustainable management of natural resources and food systems (such as biodiversity, water and soils). In this way, the UC's contribution to this Consortium will be to support the valorisation of waste and by-products associated with agricultural production and the processing of walnut and tomato fruit, with a view to the scalable production of inactive compounds, adjuvants and additives for the formulation of biopesticides and biofertilisers, under the principles of circular economy and green chemistry/engineering.
